Ben and I unintentionally found this ring fort directly behind an abandoned church. Ring forts were areas of land encircled by a stone wall or stone wall which was used to build a bank of land that surrounded the dwellings within the circle. Throughout Ireland there are more than 45,000 remains of ring forts. Construction and use of ring forts dates back to the 13th up to 15th century. The day we went to the horse races was the cusp of this entire experience. It restored my state of mind and for some reason had a really strong impact on me. I felt refreshed all over again- it basically slapped me in the face and said ‘ay ya big dummy, YOU’re in Ireland.’ (all over again)
PREhistoric Irish Studies

Today on our Irish Studies field trip, we looked at several Wedge tombs that are scattered through out the Burren- Some of the sites have had archaeologists in and excavate the tombs and the area around, but most of the tombs have yet to be fully discovered. The Burren holds about 70 Wedge tombs which is thought to be the most burials in one place anywhere in the world.
We also practiced jumping- as demonstrated by Allegra

February 2, 2009FINALLY its starting to feel more like home in my studio. I have a good start on some new work and I actually dont mind spending a lot of time in there. AND when its a mutual break time for everyone we usually end up havin’ some good CRAIC.

These pictures were taken on different days but at the top of the same mountain. Cappanawalla is the mountain that is directly behind our school. I have hiked to the top several times now. It only takes about 30 to 45 minutes to reach the top. Allegra, Kelsey, Ben and I decided to have a photo shoot at the top one cold, rainy afternoon.
